What really sits behind the price — and how to judge value, not just cost.
It's one of the first questions people ask, and a completely fair one: how much does a personal trainer cost in London? The honest answer is that it varies enormously — and the number only makes sense once you understand what you're actually paying for. Here's a clear guide to what drives the cost, and how to judge whether you're getting value.
Personal training in London spans a huge range, and a few factors explain most of the difference:
Experience and results. A coach with years of experience and thousands of hours behind them commands more than someone newly qualified — because they get results faster and more safely. Location. A private studio in central areas like Marylebone or Mayfair carries a different overhead to a suburban commercial gym. Format. One-to-one coaching is the premium option; small group and online training cost less per person. What's included. A per-session rate with nothing around it is very different from full-service coaching with programming, nutrition and support between sessions.
The most useful shift is to stop thinking about cost-per-session and start thinking about cost-per-result. A cheaper trainer who doesn't tailor your programme, watch your technique or keep you accountable can end up costing far more — in wasted months and no progress — than a more expensive coach who gets you there. Price is what you pay; results are what you're actually buying.
At the premium end, you're paying for expertise, genuinely bespoke programming, accountability, and — for many of my clients — discretion and reliability that a busy gym simply can't offer.
If you're paying for the higher end of the market, this is the level of service to expect — and what I build into every programme:
A fully bespoke plan built around your goals, body and schedule; expert coaching on technique and progression; nutrition guidance tracked properly through MyFitnessPal; a personal login to a dedicated training app so your programme and progress live in one place; and support between sessions, not just during them. That's the difference between hiring someone to count your reps and investing in a coach who moves you forward.
I keep pricing bespoke, because it genuinely depends on you — how often you train, whether it's 1:1, small group or online, and what your goals require. Rather than a one-size-fits-all number, the best starting point is a short conversation so I can understand what you're after and recommend the right approach. You can read more about how I work, see the Marylebone studio and location, or simply get in touch below.
Value in personal training isn't the lowest price — it's the coach who gets you there. If you'd like to talk it through, with no obligation, I'd be glad to.
